Buprenorphine
Treatment
Buprenorphine treatment via the Waismann Method offers a humane treatment for dependency.
The Waismann Method of Rapid
Detox offers a humane and effective solution
for patients dependent on Buprenorphine ® or
other opiate prescriptions. (i)
Perhaps you started self-medicating your back
pain, chronic pain, or some other physical disorder under
doctor’s care. Or maybe you switched from prescription
pain medications to Buprenorphine ® through another
treatment program and now feel as dependent on this new
drug as you were on the drug from which you originally
sought detoxification.
Many of our patients who began treatment with low doses
of Buprenorphine ®, or other opiate medication, later
increased their non-medical dosage (see chart below (ii)).
Many dependent patients who need Buprenorphine
detoxification continue to self-medicate to avoid
withdrawal.
The medical community recognizes Buprenorphine dependency
as a disorder of the central nervous system due to synthetic
opiate intake. Prolonged use of Buprenorphine
® causes nerve cells in the brain to stop producing
natural painkillers, or endorphins. With time
and misuse, dependency results.
Both a break in the supply of Buprenorphine ® or
its premature transition as a replacement can cause traumatic
withdrawal syndrome.

The Waismann Method
Patients who undergo The Waismann Method of
rapid detox for Buprenorphine ® state that our anesthesia-assisted
procedure spares them much of the painful, agonizing
symptoms of withdrawal.
The Waismann Method:
- Recognizes opiate and Buprenorphine physical dependency
as a central nervous system disorder, caused by long-term
opiate intake.
- Reverses a patient’s physical opiate
dependency without unnecessary suffering, fear,
or shame.
- Allows most patients to return to an opiate free,
productive life in a matter of days.
- Performs detoxification in an Intensive Care Unit
in an accredited hospital by Board Certified Anesthesiologists.
- Follows strict safety protocol, to which other methods
of rapid detoxification centers may not adhere.
Buprenorphine Treatment Caution
The danger with some other rapid detox centers lies
in the fact that most managing doctors do not
have formal training in intensive care or anesthesiology.
They lack the expertise required to prevent life-threatening
adrenaline surges sometimes produced during treatment. Unchecked
surges of adrenaline (aka norepinephrine) can constrict
the coronary and peripheral blood vessels, during withdrawal,
and trigger dangerously high blood pressure and elevated
heart rates.
Many other treatment centers minimize the time
patients spend in the hospital to minimize costs. This
puts the patient’s safety and the outcome of the
procedure at risk. Dependent persons should have in-patient
care a minimum of 4 days, with full medical assistance
for pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure transitional
time.
Throughout
the decade our medical directors have refined and enhanced the
Waismann Method procedure to minimize the time under anesthesia from the
previous 6 to 8 hours, to only 1 to 2 hours. This evolution has minimized
the use of anesthesia and maximized patient safety. The Waismann Method follows
the protocol of safety by using the minimum anesthesia necessary to achieve
the same result.
After the Waismann Method of detoxification, the patient
needs no opiates such as Buprenorphine-based Suboxone or Subutex. Post-procedure, our patients go home
Buprenorphine-free and opiate-free.
At Waismann, our physicians are Board Certified
Anesthesiologists and specialists in pain management,
with extensive experience in opiate detoxification. They
run individualized pre-procedure analyses and brain
chemistry on each patient, and monitor their vital functions
throughout Buprenorphine treatment.
We often notice the body’s inability to absorb
enough nutrients needed to synthesize the brain’s
neurotransmitters and hormones, due to chronic Buprenorphine
use. (Intestinal tract imbalances can lead to a variety
of other disorders including: depression, anxiety, panic
attacks, insomnia, fatigue, OCD, ADD, ADHD and chronic
pain; plus, drug dependence, abuse, and worsening of
the underlying deficiencies.)

75% of all adverse effects to drugs occur at standard
recommended doses, as observed in general medical practice.
The opiate replacement drugs studied shows disparity,
since the number of patients treated with Buprenorphine ® was
much lower than with methadone [71] (iii) .
Buprenorphine Treatment Preparation
- The Waismann Method of rapid detox begins in a hospital where the patient
is admitted and undergoes a comprehensive
physical examination for a minimum of 24
hours prior to the procedure.
- Before Buprenorphine
treatment, Waismann physicians use diagnostic
blood and urine testing as well as brain chemistry
assessments to identify the neurotransmitter
and hormone deficiencies that may have led to a non-medical
Buprenorphine dependency.
- It is imperative that patients spend 24-48 hours
as in-patients prior to the procedure, so pre-medication can
be properly administered to stabilize body
functions, which helps to achieve a smooth
and safe procedure.
- We base the duration of pre-treatment and the procedure
on each patient's individual medical and dependency
history; the goal is to achieve the best results
and safety required by our extensive protocol.
- Specialized physicians in our hospital consult patients
with certain pre-existing conditions to minimize risks
and stigma to maximize positive results and
comfort.
Under anesthesia, the patient literally sleeps
through physical withdrawal while rapid detox cleanses
the brain’s receptors of tenacious Buprenorphine
opiates.
Buprenorphine treatment eliminates conscious cravings
from withdrawal while the patient is under.
“The Waismann Method gave me my life back and I can't remember the last
time I felt this good,” says R.G. following his rapid detoxification. “Without
all of you I don't know how I would have ever recaptured my life.”
